Skin - Severe irritant (rabbit). Not a skin sensitiser (guinea pig)
Eye - Severe irritant (rabbit).
Vapour inhalation - LC50 - >20 mg/L (rat). Technical quoted at 0.89 mg/L/4hr air (rat).
Chronic oral toxicity NOEL - ppm for two years. Repeated exposure may cause allergenic disorders.
Not mutagenic (i.e. does not cause cancer or reproductive problems). In animal studies teratogenic effects only occurred at maternally toxic doses. It is not classed as teratogenic. It is an experimental animal carcinogen when the maximum tolerated dose is exceeded. At normal doses it is not considered carcinogenic.
Enlarged and/or dark red lymph nodes that were associated with abdominal masses were seen in rats fed 100 mg/kg/day for 2 years.
23. TOXICITY SYMPTOMS:
Swallowing - nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, depression, abdominal pain and central nervous system depression. There is a risk of vomit entering the lungs if victim uncoordinated causing aspiration pneumonia or inflammation of the lungs.
Irritates eyes.
May irritate skin and have a degreasing action. Repeated or prolonged exposure may lead to contact dermatitis.
Vapour may irritate mucous membranes and respiratory tract.
Inhalation may cause dizziness, headache and nausea. High concentrations may cause loss of coordination. impaired judgement and eventually unconsciousness.
24. FIRST AID:
If SWALLOWED - Rinse mouth with water. Give a glass of water to drink if conscious. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Induce vomiting preferably using Ipecac syrup APF. See a doctor.
If in EYES - Irrigate for 15 minutes with plenty of water. See a doctor immediately. Transport to hospital.
If on SKIN - Rinse with plenty of water, remove contaminated clothing, wash with soap and water. See a doctor if irritation occurs.
If INHALED - Remove patient to fresh air. Keep at rest until fully recovered. See a doctor if effects persist.
If patient has symptoms or is concerned contact a doctor immediately.
Advice to doctor - Treat symptomatically.
